As the old adage says, it takes a village to raise a child. Why should running your real estate business be any different? When in a leadership role, such as broker-owner or team leader, it can be easy to feel like the weight of the company is resting on your shoulders and your shoulders alone. But this can lead to unhappy, unfulfilled agents and employees, stagnating business, and unneeded stress for you. Here are some ways that delegating tasks to your team can take your business to the next level.
Big Picture
It can be easy to lose sight of the forest due to all the trees. We often lose sight of our big goals in the face of the day-to-day minutiae of conducting business. Through delegating some of those day-to-day tasks—whether it concerns office management, training, or anything else—to other members of your team, you can free yourself up for some of those more big ticket items. For instance, you’ll have more time to brainstorm breakthrough ideas and take your business to the next level.
Empowerment
You hired your team for a reason—they are capable, insightful, and reliable people. By giving them more responsibilities and hands-on tasks in your business, you can demonstrate your trust in them. This, in turn, will help them have more faith in you as a leader. An empowered team is an effective team. There’s nothing worse than a hovering micromanager of a boss. Let your agents or employees make their jobs their own, and you’ll find a healthier, happier, thriving work environment growing around you.
Shared Vision
By delegating and sharing tasks with your team, you’ll also have the added benefit of constructing a shared vision within your business. What is a shared vision? It’s when everyone who works under a company or brand has an understanding and buys into the mission, vision, and goals. Through delegating and creating this shared vision, you turn your business into a well-oiled machine. When everyone is on the same page, your business becomes more stable and independent. It will survive and continue to exist through any changes in personnel or leadership due to the work being shared by the group.
It can be hard to hand over the reins and let go, especially when the outcomes of a business will reflect on you. But through delegating, you can free up more of your time to focus on big picture items and look to the future. You can build a stronger relationship with your team by trusting them with greater responsibilities. By doing that, you can build a shared vision and foster a thriving work environment within your company that can last for years. A little delegation goes a long way.
