I actually wrote 2 different series on database building methods on my blog late last year. It was focused on loan officers, but many of the ideas could work for either profession.

In a local coffee shop I created a website for the owners built to their specifications free of charge. In return, I was able to put a few links and web-hooks on that site advertising my real estate services. When a patron brings in their laptop and fires it up, they find me and my services on their landing page. It has worked well!
