A recent report by the National Fair Housing Alliance shows there were more than 28,000 fair housing complaints filed just last year. I repeat, there were TENS of THOUSANDS of fair housing complaints in the last year alone!

Those numbers indicate that despite fair housing being the law of the land, we have a long way to go before it is realized by all. Unfair housing is not simply a vestige of yesteryear; it has its own stake in the ground today.

Did you know each one of these categories reported multiple fair housing violations in the last year? Feel free to download and share this bingo chart at your next sales meeting.

But How Did We Get Here?

If you have ever wondered how U.S. housing and homeownership—the American dream—has been a living nightmare for thousands compelled to file fair housing complaints, then watch this video excerpt from the three-hour CE and six-hour workshop, How to Be an Anti-Racist Real Estate Pro© (complimentary access with code: realtorjourney).

This video excerpt, Welcome-ish: UN-Fair Housing and the Part Left Out of Nursery Rhymes, gives an overview of U.S. housing history that has made even the most stoic in the live workshops cringe.

You will see original newspaper clippings, dehumanizing statements, and other signs of exclusionary, unfair housing from the past. Worse yet, you’ll hear some of the same refrains and housing talking points that are used today, which show the permanence of unconscious and conscious bias unfair housing commands.

Exclusive for REALTOR® readers, I’m offering the complimentary promo code, “realtorjourney,” to watch for FREE.

Now more than ever, we have an opportunity to show courage and be committed to fair housing as “Anti-Racist Real Estate Pros” and to be change-makers in our firms, associations, and communities. As another bonus for you, download a complimentary copy of the ebook of the same name as part of the full course. Because, as history has proven, the journey of being an “Anti-Racist Real Estate Pro” is not a quick sprint, but rather, a lifelong marathon.

The marathon continues…may the fair housing force be with you!
